COVID-19 and Long Covid

COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. Long Covid is the term given to the long term consequences of the infection that inexplicably leaves some patients severely debilitated with persistent and significant symptoms.

Long-Covid remains a new and little understood condition and the number of people who are left suffering from persistent symptoms after their initial episode of illness, continues to grow. Most commonly people are describing crippling fatigue, post exertional malaise, brain fog, headaches, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sleep disturbance and widespread muscle aching as well as many other varied symptoms.

Although we are just beginning to learn more about the presentation of the long covid symptoms we are used to working with post viral fatigue syndromes that originate from other initial viral infections, such as the Epstein-Barr Virus and Meningitis. The principles of managing these conditions appears to be similar when working with the patients that we are already seeing with covid-19 and longcovid and so our experience is allowing us to provide advice, support and rehabilitation plans that can enable people to begin to understand their symptoms and put strategies in place to begin to stabilise their condition.

For those living in the north east of england we can provide home visits with full PPE of mask, apron and gloves. For those living further away we can do appointments via telephone or using Microsoft Teams or Zoom, and appointments can be split into shorter slots to allow for fatigue levels.

If you feel you would benefit from having an appointment to discuss your symptoms and how they are affecting your level of function and quality of life, then please do get in touch with us to arrange an appt.

We are here to provide support, reassurance and advice regarding this very complex symptom presentation.
